4 New Series Streaming in May You Won’t Want To Miss

Whether or not you have someone in your life who annually provides the reminder that “it’s gonna be May” — via the classic *NSYNC meme — we’re here to tell you that the month of May comes with a whole slew of series premiering on streamers. And we’ve curated a list of our top picks from all the fresh new shows so you don’t have to wade through the ocean of options alone. Keep reading for four titles you won’t want to miss, along with the performances to watch.

The Lincoln Lawyer

Fans of the bestselling novel series The Lincoln Lawyer can anticipate its latest onscreen adaptation with the upcoming Netflix show. Author Michael Connelly not only penned the source material for it — season one is based on the second book in the novel series, The Brass Verdict — he’s also serving as its executive producer. In an official statement from Netflix, the multi-hyphenate summarized how his popular work was brought to life for the streaming giant via “the complex and mysterious arcs fans know and love with a mix of light-hearted humor and a dose of family dynamics.” Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller, the Los Angeles-based defense attorney who performs legal work from the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car. Season one sees him entangled in a web of conspiracy after Haller takes over the casework of a murdered colleague. You can watch all the intrigue unfold when The Lincoln Lawyer drops on Netflix come May 13. At that time, be sure to also keep an eye out for names like Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, Christopher Gorham, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, and Michael Graziadei.

The Time Traveler’s Wife

Continuing with the trend of series adapted from books, here’s one landing on HBO Max come May 15. Based on Audrey Niffenegger’s novel of the same name, The Time Traveler’s Wife follows the magical love story of Henry (Theo James) and Clare (Rose Leslie). The married couple faces the challenge of maintaining their relationship through all the uncertainty that comes with Henry’s condition: his uncontrollable ability to travel through time and space. Besides watching James and Leslie navigate their characters through the twists and turns that result, you can also anticipate taking in performances from Natasha Lopez as Charisse and Desmin Borges as Gomez, who form another onscreen couple in the fantasy romance series. And according to The Time Traveler’s Wife executive producer and writer Steven Moffat, the HBO Max show will provide “the love story we need right now.”

Now & Then

The upcoming bilingual thriller from Apple TV+ is set in Miami and was shot in both Spanish and English. It centers on a group of college best friends who experience a celebratory weekend gone wrong, which tragically results in a death amongst their crew. Twenty years later, the remaining five have to face the past together after blackmail threatens the seemingly perfect lives they’ve since built. The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Rosie Perez, Marina de Tavira, José María Yazpik, Maribel Verdú, Manolo Cardona, Soledad Villamil, Željko Ivanek, Jorge López, Alicia Jaziz, Dario Yazbek Bernal, Alicia Sanz, Jack Duarte, and Miranda de la Serna. And if its trailer doesn’t have you on the edge of your seat, we don’t know what will. You can watch how it all begins to unfold when the first three episodes of Now & Then debut on Apple TV+ come May 20.

Night Sky

Have you been waiting for a sci-fi drama starring two Oscar-winners? If so, look no further than an upcoming series that will premiere on Prime Video come May 20. Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons respectively lead Night Sky as Irene and Franklin York, a couple who has kept for a long time the secret of the chamber buried in their backyard. That is, it leads to a deserted planet the Yorks can observe from the safety and comfort of two recliners, according to the series’ trailer. But after meeting a mysterious young man (Chai Hansen), Franklin and Irene find their lives upended as they discover that the enigmatic hidden chamber holds more than they could have ever imagined. You can anticipate getting some answers to the more mystifying elements of the upcoming sci-fi series when it premieres, along with seeing some additional performances from names like Kiah McKirnan, Julieta Zylberberg, Rocío Hernández, and Adam Bartley.

As we say “bye-bye-bye” to April showers and hello to May flowers, you can look forward to watching work from the stacked cast lists found in The Lincoln Lawyer, The Time Traveler’s Wife, Now & Then, and Night Sky when the series debut in May.
