Activities for Every Day in September 2023

September is a super busy month. It’s as if the calendar forgot that it’s time to wind down from summer. Welcome back to your actor activities roundup, where we offer a blend of relaxation, reinvigoration and reflection for each day of the month. Join in the fun with these 30 carefully curated activities that will get your blood pumping.

Advice & Inspiration:

1. The SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes are still in full force. A-listers such as Kevin Bacon, Susan Sarandon, Christian Slater and Olivia Wilde were seen on the picket lines. If you’re interested in getting on the line, visit the SAG-AFTRA Picket Schedule & Locations.

2. Actors who wish to promote their projects during the upcoming fall film festivals have been granted permission by SAG-AFTRA, as long as the project has obtained an Interim Agreement from the union. Events include the Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and Venice International Film Festival. Read more about the Interim Agreements.

3. Build Resilience. Once the strike is over, there’s going to be a flood of auditions in hopes of creating “catch-up” content. This may even result in more than expected cattle calls. With the influx of actors who will attend these auditions, your chances of landing a job can become more difficult. But as we know, rejections are common in the acting world. Learn not to take them personally and use them as motivation to work harder and grow.

4. Practice monologues, read scripts, or perform with friends or in community theater. Keep your skills sharp. Don’t pigeonhole yourself into one type of role or character. The more versatile you are, the more opportunities you’ll have.

5. Want audition tips from greats such as Seth Rogen, Cate Blanchett, Christina Ricci, Rhea Seehorn and more? Check out this SAG-AFTRA Foundation video. It’ll certainly help you get inspired!

6. We make fun of receiving a 2-cent residual check, but when you’re not working, those continuous 2 cents can start to make your piggy bank heavier. Keep track of your acting funds with the Actor’s Residual Log Book.

7. Avoid Gossip and Drama: The acting community can be close-knit. Stay away from unnecessary drama or gossip which can harm relationships and your reputation.

8. Stay Curious: Always have the hunger to learn, not just about acting, but about the world, cultures, history and sciences. Broadening your knowledge can add depth to your performance.

9. The Big Book of Improv Games has pages upon pages of performance-based games that are sure to keep you occupied. There are Scene Games, Quirky Games, Singing Games and games that you never knew existed!

10. This month’s social media spotlight goes to Khaby Lame. Learn how to cut potatoes and wonder why you just spent the past hour watching his TikTok videos.
