Katherine Warnock Talks Season 4 of ‘The Chosen’

Coming off the wrap of filming season four of The Chosen — one of the few TV series to receive an exemption from SAG-AFTRA — we wanted to hear what fans can expect. The show is widely regarded as the most successful crowdfunded TV series of all time. Katherine Warnock, Vice President of Original Content for The Chosen, virtually sat down with Casting Networks to talk about the upcoming fourth installment in the hit drama about the life of Jesus Christ.

We started by asking Warnock for insights into what’s contributed to the success of the series so far and she shared her perspective on the draw of The Chosen. “It has this remarkable ability to gather [people] and pour out hope and remind people that in the midst of messy humanity, profound things can happen,” she noted. “So I think it’s just leaving a mark on people, no matter whether they think Jesus is God or not.”

From there, we dove into our main question, querying Warnock on what she could share about the upcoming season. She mentioned some of the rising tensions that fans can expect from the upcoming, fourth installment of The Chosen. “We see Jesus and his disciples being pushed out of Jerusalem and then finding their way back in,” Warnock revealed. “And [we see] what is happening as people plot to bring Jesus down.”

The executive continued by noting one major plot point of the upcoming season. “We see the end of John the Baptist’s life and we see the story being told in a way it’s never been told before,” she disclosed. Warnock also teased some surprises that will come with the upcoming season, as well as some unexpected storylines that range from uplifting to harrowing. “We’ve asked more of our actors this season — and our [main] cast — than we ever have before,” she added. “They’ve hit the mark more than we could have asked, thought, or imagined.”

Before the interview wrapped, we wanted to hear the executive’s take on the future of entertainment, based on the success of The Chosen and its unique business model. Warnock first delineated the show’s inaugural season as being crowdfunded, after which the series was “completely fan-supported.” She went on to note that the show’s business model may not be replicable for the industry at large. “But I do know that the community-driven model that has sustained and propelled The Chosen to a global phenomenon will really become a pipeline in Hollywood,” Warnock concluded.
