My Casting Story: Jaime M. Callica on Booking ‘Vindicta’
Not everyone can say they booked their first audition back in the room in a post-COVID world, but not everyone is Jaime M. Callica. The actor, known for his work in projects ranging from the Tubi original Trap House to Tyler Perry’s Ruthless took time out to sit down with Casting Networks via video call and share the high-stakes casting story behind his role in Sean McNamara’s recent horror film for Paramount+ entitled Vindicta.
Besides it being his first in-person audition, post-pandemic, Callica outlined what other details made this the “second most nerve-wracking audition” he’s ever had. The actor noted that the original self tape audition request was for another part and Callica found out he got the callback the day before it took place. Plus, he was being asked to read for a different role and there were nine pages of sides he had to prep for it.
The actor recalled how he made it to the in-person callback for the new role and settled himself after the first read so he could deliver a strong second take. Callica also shared and showed us his signature audition move that he executed for the read. The actor relayed McNamara’s redirect as well, which included a nod to Callica’s Canadian roots.
Before the interview wrapped, we asked how booking the project has impacted his career. Callica’s response highlighted other Vindicta cast members. “I got to work with some actors that I’ve been watching for years,” he said. Callica noted that having the opportunity to act opposite names like Jeremy Piven and Sean Astin allowed him to observe how they work.
Callica also revealed during our interview a “really big full-circle moment” connected to his career that happened with another actor cast in Vindicta. You’ll have to watch the interview to find out what it was. You can catch the full tale of how the actor landed such a breakthrough booking in this on-camera installment of My Casting Story.
